According to the report of the Home Ministry, there has been a rise in the smuggling of illegal Chinese weapons, which is impacting the stability of the region. In recent times, there has been an increase in the seizures of Chinese Weapons.
The report further emphasized that, such weapons are being smuggled and even assembled in Mayanmar, which is a cause of worry considering the fact that many troubled areas of Myanmar border on Northeast.
In this year, as many as 423 Chinese illegal weapons have been recovered in various states of North-east. These weapons includes M-16s, AK-47s, Chinese pistols & Lathodes.
According to a report compiled by Intelligence Bureau “Prominent insurgent groups, especially those from Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram, maintain regular contact with Chinese intelligence agencies and have benefited from Chinese largesse and weapons”.
The agency report also states that training of insurgent groups in the northeast, harbouring exiled militants & leaders and provisioning of arms & ammunition have been the recurrent facets of China’s ‘diplo-terrorism’ against India since the 1960s.
The report informs that the trend of weapon smuggling in the North Eastern states of India is growing.
Due to the large scale seizures of Chinese weapons in a peaceful state like Mizoram, India is worried. According to intelligence agencies, the weapons have emerged on one of the major routes used for weapons smuggling – Monakhali coast-Thanchi- Parva-Chin/ Rakhine.
