COVID-19 CASES SPIKES UP IN INDIA, 501 DEATHS IN LAST 24 HOURS

The COVID-19 count has reached the mark of 95 lacs in India. 36,604 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours with 501 new deaths.  The country has now 4,35,603 active cases, 88,89,585 recovery cases and 1,37,621 deaths.

Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan, while addressing a press conference said, “I just want to make this clear that the government has never spoken about vaccinating the entire country,” He also informed that any “adverse event” at the Serum Institute trial would not halt or delay the timeline of the vaccines. ICMR DG Dr Balram Bhargava added, “Vaccination would depend on the efficacy of the vaccine and our purpose is to break the chain of transmission. If we are able to vaccinate critical mass of people and break virus transmission, then we may not have to vaccinate the entire population,”

Prime Minister has called for another virtual meet on Friday. All political parties have been asked to join and discuss the current COVID-19 situation that has taken the entire nation in its grasp. The first all-party virtual meet took place amidst the nationwide lockdown in April.

Meanwhile, the national capital witnessed a humongous number of new cases in the past 24 hours. The Centre had blamed the Delhi Government for the rising COVID-19 cases in November. As a result, Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on Monday reduced the price of RT-PCR tests from the existing rate of Rs 2,400 to Rs 800.  The Delhi government also assured Supreme Court about its proactive and effective measures in containing the spread of the virus since its outbreak. Punjab government imposed night curfew between 10 pm and 5am to battle the increasing cases.

On Tuesday, Rajasthan reported 2,331, Maharashtra 4,930 and Delhi reported 4,006 new covid-19 cases. The total number of people infected by the virus in Rajasthan stands at 2,70,410 while it is 5,74,380 in the national capital. The Health Ministry, in its briefing on Tuesday informed that Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan are the top five states showing rise in the active COVID cases in November. “In November 2020, the number of recoveries has been more than the number of new #COVID19 cases,” the Health Ministry informed. It also asked states to form ‘expert groups’ to determine COVID-19 test rates.
