December 14, 2020: Users from all over the world reported disruption in there google services at around 5 pm IST today. Gmail, YouTube, Drive, Search engine are some of the apps that went down abruptly this evening causing a world wide uproar. India was also affected by this disruption. Google India was down for almost an hour and users were unable to access YouTube, send or receive mails etc. Although some users confirmed that YouTube was working fine on desktops; both Android and iOS apps were worst affected. 

This latest outage, as reported by Downdetector (the website that tracks web outages) was more severe than the last one. Over 40,000 outage cases were reported from all over the world, including India, were reported within 10 minutes of the outage. 

The services are back up now in most of the nations and downdetector is now showing a steep drop in the number of outages. Google has acknowledged the issue and updated its status page to confirm the services that were affected by the outage. These services include Google Search, Google Play Store, Google Drive, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Groups, Google Hangouts, Google Keep, and Google Tasks, among others. The YouTube team has seperately addressed the issue as it was the worst affected service. The tweet reads “We are aware that many of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now our team is aware and looking into it. We’ll update you here as soon as we have more news.”

Some users also reported that some games, including Pokemon Go, had also stopped working.

After around 6:20 pm, many users have confirmed that services are coming back online and but Google is yet to release a statement as to what actually caused this worlwide server failure.
