December 21, 2020: The COVID-19 recovery rate in West Bengal is closing in on 95% as only two districts, Kolkata and 24 Pargana are the ones left with more than 1,000 cases. 2,627 patients were discharged the week ending this Sunday which made up 94.95% of total recoveries.
The state is seeing more recoveries than new infections as active cases now stand at 17,771, which is below the mark of 18,000.
A total of 40 COVID induced deaths occured in the last 24 hours, mainly at the hotspot, Kolkata and North and South 24 Pargana where the count is 27. The state recorded a total of 1,978 new cases in the same 24 hours, with 103 from Nadia, 85 new patients from Pashchim Bardhaman and 83 from Purba Bardhaman. In North Bengal, Darjeeling recorded 79 new infections, Malda 25 and Jalpaiguri had 67 new people testing positive.
The number of active cases in Darjeeling is a whopping 547 with Jalpaiguri close behind with 462 and Cooch Behar with 381.
