December 23, 2020:. On Monday, December 21, Assam Rifles personnel working side by side with custom agents confiscated a smuggled consignment of cigarettes from the Champai district of Mizoram, enroute from Myanmar.
17 boxes of foreign origin cigarettes were seized by the Serchhip Battalion of 23 sector Assam Rifles and the custom department agents. The shipment is estimated to be of worth 22.10 lakh in indian currency if it had entered the local market.
One arrest has also been made on spot in connection with the smuggling as told by an Assam Rifles official.
