Margaret Rose Mawlong, Meghalaya’s first Deputy Commissioner passes away

At the age of 82, Meghalaya’s first lady deputy commissioner Margaret Rose Mawlong one of the celebrated lady bureaucrat and women leaders in Meghalaya, Mawlong breathed her last at her residence in Laitumkhrah, Shillong on Wednesday. 

 Mawlong, was the first lady DC of East Khasi Hills district from 1988 to 1991and was prized with various positions in Govt. of Meghalaya and different social organisations. 

An alumnus of St Mary’s School and College in Shillong, Mawlong appeared in the Assam Civil Service exams in 1967, and stood second in the merit list and first among the tribal candidates.

She was the first lady in erstwhile Assam to qualify for the state civil service exam. The former IAS officer also played a major role in society as a woman leader.
