 India begins it’s mass immunization process with four States, including Assam, today.

       Aimed to test India’s vaccine delivery system and other operations, this  phase of the dummy vaccination drive or dry run of the mass immunization process is set to commence today.

The process will be carried out in four States- Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Punjab and Gujarat. It will be the largest such process in the country’s history. 

Meanwhile, On December 10, SII sought EUA from Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) was asked to submit safety data on phase 2 of 3 clinical trials in India of it’s vaccine candidate named Covisheild, developed by Oxford AstraZeneca. 

India live Covid status:  20,021 new cases were reported yesterday which shot the number of COVID-19 patients in India past 1.02 crore, with 2.77 lakh active patients. The death toll now stands at 1.47 lakh with the addition of 279 deaths reported on Sunday. 

In other news, over 3,500 people have been infected with the new strain of coronavirus till December 25. The infections by the new variant is steadily increasing, mostly in the UK, France, Ireland, Israel, Hong Kong, and Singapore. South Korea recorded it’s first COVID variant-strain infected patient today.
