The Government of Assam has decided to distribute 22,250 scooties to meritorious girls, who had passed their HS final exam in 2020 to promote girls’ education in the state, said Himanta Biswa Sarma the Education Minister, on Sunday.
Piyush Hazarika, minister of state (MoS) for health gave out scooties to 634 girl students in Hojai district on Sunday. The scooties are distributed free-of-cost to those who secured first division in their higher secondary final exam under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in 2020. Besides, minister Hazarika, Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, Lumding MLA Shibu Mishra and Hojai additional deputy commissioner Gauri Shankar Das were also present in the event.
Sarma also declared, over Rs.144 crore would be spent under Dr. Banikanta Kakati Meit Award of Pragyan Bharati scheme to render scooties to girl students to encourage them in their journey of obtaining scholarship. He also mentioned his concerns regarding the issue of early marriage and financial burden becoming a hindrance for the girls’ education.
“Our government has done whatever it had committed. In the last two days, around 22,000 scooties have been distributed among the meritorious girl students within the state,” minister Hazarika said while talking to the reporters regarding the event.
He also applauded Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and said, “The state is progressing under the dynamic leadership of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal,” and condemned Congress leader Ripun Bora for their inefficiency on ground work.
Sarma informed,” After the BJP government relinquished the fee, more than 4.80 lakh students have enrolled in colleges across Assam, this year. The government has also been providing book grant of Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 2,000 to every graduate and post-graduate students.” In addition, 15,000 to 20,000 teachers have been appointed recently to enhance the academic standards of the government schools.
