India’s greatest cricket captain, Nawab Mohammad Mansoor Ali Khan Siddiqui Pataudi was born on 5 January 1941. His demise in 2011 was a great loss for the cricket industry. Even after losing vision on an eye, Pataudi left his exceptional legacy of captaincy behind him. Today the cricket icon on his 79th birth anniversary is remembered as the man who unified team India.

 On 1 July 1961, he met with a devastating accident, which ultimately changed his life forever. Any other cricketer would have taken a break from cricket, but Pataudi was a man made of determination. He worked hard and exceptional earned himself a place in the Indian side within just a couple of months. He manoeuvred his own unique techniques, and turned the table to his advantage.  Pataudi got the name “Tiger” for his swift fielding. 

At the age of 21, he was made the captain of India, and Tiger changed the face Indian cricket forever. His biggest attribution to Indian team was the sense of unity that he brought. “You are playing for the country, not for your state or zonal teams”, was Tiger’s message.
