The track knows no bounds for Indian National sprinter, Hima Das, who has recently qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Set to be held earlier, the games will now be conducted from July 23 to September 9.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, celebrations and good wishes are already pouring in after the news came out that Das will be competing in the 2021 Olympics.
Our Dhing Express, as fondly called by the fans, holds the national record as of the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. According to the resources of “The Readers Time”, she finished second after clocking in 400 meters in 50.79 seconds. Earlier there have been speculations that Das might not run 400 meters anymore due to an injury. But after a hiatus of two years, she’s ready to level up.
Earlier in the 2018 Asian games, Hima along with MR Poovamma, Sarita Gayakwad, and VK Vismaya won the women’s 4 × 400 meters relay and also won silver in the 4 x 400 mixed relay held for the first time that year.
Hima Das was also awarded the Arjuna Award by President Ram Nath Kovind for her contributions to the sports field and towards India. Das is only the 2nd athlete from Assam after Bhogeshwar Baruah to , in an international sports event.
