A fierce fire broke out at a furnishing godown in Ashram road of Silchar, in the wee hours of Wednesday, damaging materials worth lakhs. It was reported that the godown belonged to the renowned industrialist Ashish Choudhury.
According to the sources of “The Readers Time” right after the blazes were discovered, the locals called for the fire brigade. “Initially we thought it was a fire at Sunlight but later it was clear that the fire broke out at the warehouse”, an eyewitness said. He also stated, “We rushed to the spot and found that a plethora of young boys were trying their best to control the fire. Credits must be given to the firemen too. The engines reached on time otherwise the fire could have spread wild.”
Materials worth of lakhs, including adhesives, wood and other carpentry items were stored there which caught fire quickly. In spite of the best efforts of firemen, the fire kept raging high for long.
Ultimately after four hours of sustained strive, the fire was put under control around 6:00 in the morning.
Ditumoni Goswami, the officer in charge of Silchar Sadar Police was also present at the spot. The Silchar fire station are suspecting short- circuit to be the cause of fire but are also not ruling out other possibilities.
