After a crowd protesting Donald Trump’s defeat violently stormed the US capital and plunged Washington into turmoil, Congress returned to the session late Wednesday to begin the process of certifying Joe Biden’s presidential election triumph. The mayor of Washington enforced a curfew in response to the violent protests that led to four deaths.
Four individuals kicked the bucket, including one lady who was shot by a cop, in the midst of fights and revolting on Capitol Hill by allies of Donald Trump. Who amassed inside the building in the midst of a meeting of Congress to affirm Joe Biden’s political victory, setting off unusual disarray and brutality at the core of American democracy and resulting allegations of attempting a coup by the outgoing president.
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert J Contee said in a late-night news conference that 52 were arrested because of the unrest that saw pro-Trump rioters smashing windows, scaling rafters, tearing down U.S. flags, and entering the chamber of the Senate. According to the Washington Post, legislators were instructed to pick up gas masks as police fired tear gas inside the Rotunda, the ornate area underneath the dome that connects the House and the Senate. A lockout was imposed on both the House and Senate and the entire Capitol. Vice President Mike Pence was evacuated to safe zones, together with lawmakers.
The U.S. Capitol has seen nothing like it in more than 220 years: a rippling crowd, pushing its way past its elegant marble columns, disturbing the passage of authority, dishonoring the site of the greatest democracy in the world. Many Trump allies entered the Capitol expanding on Wednesday in attempt to revoke his political race out.
Biden called for “simple decency” to be reinstated and said, “The words of a president matter, regardless of how good or bad that president is. At their best, a president’s words can inspire. They can be motivated at their worst,”he added. He urged on Trump to “go on national Television now, honor his oath and defend the Constitution and call for an end to this siege.”
Former U.S. President Barack Obama has said the violence was instigated by Trump. “History will rightly remember today’s violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation, has continued to lie baselessly about the outcome of a lawful election,” he said.
Legislators resumed business after dark, vowing not to be deterred, and voted down the first threat to Biden’s triumph, with some Trump loyalists changing course in the aftermath of the brutality that shook the world over.
A day after Biden celebrated his victory, the chaos at the Capitol came, with his Democrats preparing to win two Senate seats in runoffs in Georgia—giving full Legislative power to the party and significantly improving Biden’s ability to pass legislation, beginning with fresh Covid-19 relief. With only two days left in office, Trump is losing his grip on reality, several news reports said his cabinet was whispering about removing him as unfit for office under the 25th Amendment to the Constitution.
