Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Birthday Anniversary: Parakram Diwas

Today we are remembering the revolutionary freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose for his dedication to India’s struggle for freedom. Fondly known as Netaji, born on 23 January 1897, was a defiant patriot, which made him a hero in India. His aim was simple, much like others, to get India its deserved independence from the British Raj. The ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ or the Indian National Army, where drastic steps were taken to gain independence for the region, is one of his main contributions to the same thing. His death has been clouded by mystery. A lot of what he said, however, has influenced generations of Indians to come. The central government has agreed this year to rename Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti as ‘Parakram Diwas,’ to be celebrated on January 23.

” It is blood alone that can pay the price of freedom. Give me blood and I will give you freedom.”

His revolutionary words still strike a chord in the youth’s hearts and are fondly remembered by Indians, of the many freedom fighters who have laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. In 1921-41, Subhash Chandra Bose was imprisoned 11 times during his struggle for independence. After freeing Port Blair in 1943, he hissed tricolour on free Indian soil at Cellular Jail. Today all the school children from Silchar paraded throughout the city and finally paid their tribute at the Rangirkhari Point statue.
