 Digital journalists arrested in Guwahati by Assam police

Guwahati police have arrested two digital journalists for spreading filthy rumors about Health Minister of Assam, Hemanta Biswa Sarma and his daughter.  They attempted to give a controversial twist to a picture of the minister with his daughter which has been condemned by many in the state.

Editor in chief of Pratibimba LIVE, Taufiquddin Ahmad and news editor Iqbal were arrested by the Dispur police on Wednesday. They are now interrogated on airing such rumors digitally. Two other individuals are detained for sharing the picture with malicious comments named Puli Muchahary and Nang Noyonmoni Gogoi from Bodoland Digital and Spotlight Assam respectively. 

GP Singh, ADGP tweeted, “salacious news article about an honorable minister of Government of Assam and attempts to malign familial bonds. People are strongly advised not to give air to such attempts since posting such pictures with malicious intension attracts provision of POCSO Act. Assam police would take strong actions against all such attempts under stringent provisions of POCSO Act.” 

He further added. “Actions shall be taken against all persons irrespective of their place of residence who use any of the social media platforms to maliciously use such platforms for furthering their conspiracy.” 

On such unparliamentarily attempts Sharma said, “My wife has lodged a police case in this regard. I am surprised that people would stoop so low in their conspiracies to target me that they are now showing a photo of mine taken with my minor daughter in such manner.”

According to reports, Sarma is shocked to know about such “conspiracies” that could target him. From various parts of the state, people have raised their voice and condemned such uncharitable matter strongly.
