Sports I Mirabai Chanu felicitated by Amit Shah in New Delhi I The Readers Time
It was a proud moment for India as Mirabai Chanu won the silver in Weightlifting at the 2020Tokyo Olympics. She is the first weightlifter and second Indian woman to receive an Olympic silver after P.V Sindhu. Recently, Mirabai Chanu was seen creating a victorious start in Tokyo as she became the first Indian weightlifter to win the silver medal at Tokyo Olympics. Chanu won the silver medal in the women’s 49kg category.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah felicitated Mirabai Chanu at the 51st Foundation day celebration of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR & D). The official of BPR & D said, “This is a small gesture by us to welcome her to the fraternity on behalf of the Indian Police.” The Minister of State for Home affairs Nityanand Rai, Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Intelligence Bureau Director Arvind Kumar were present at the event which was held at BPR & D headquarters in New Delhi.
The sportsperson was appointed as Additional Superintended of Police (Sports) in the Police Department by the Manipur Government earlier in July after her outstanding performances at the Games. Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk) during her four successful attempts across the competition that was held between July 23 and August 8 this year.
