Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Chief Minister of Assam on Wednesday stated that the Durga Puja will surely be celebrated in the State but by following all COVID-19 protocols.

During this pandemic, there was confusion among the people, organizers, idol artisans, decorators, and various other peoples who belong to the sectors involved with the Durga Puja, regarding the certainty of the celebration of Durga Puja. But with this announcement by Chief Minister, it is now clear that all people who want to celebrate the festival will be able to celebrate the festival with zeal and enthusiasm but following the proper Durga puja guidelines 2021 in Assam.

This news is a great news for Silchar and the people who depend on such festivals for their earnings such as idol artisans and decorators. The pandemic has hit this sector hard and many people have had reduced earnings, especially in the small business community. But as we are heading towards new normal and the vaccination program is also progressing fast, the condition of these small-scale workers is also coming on track.

As per a report of News18 Durga Puja is said to generate transactions worth Rs 4,500 crore only in Kolkata and Rs 15,000 crore in the entire West Bengal. 75% of the total puja fund comes from the corporate world. The corporate spending in the Durga Puja of Kolkata is nearly Rs 500-800 crore.

The festival of Durga Puja is celebrated for ten days in the Ashwin month of the Bengali calendar. However, in the actual sense, the festival starts on the sixth day. It is believed among the devotees that on this day only Goddess Durga came on Earth. The five days of Durga Puja are named as Shashthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Navami, and Vijayadashami. Each day has its own significance. This year Durga Puja will begin on October 11, 2021, and ends on October 15, 2021.
