According to report published in The Times of India, there has been a marked rise in the number of violent attacks. These have been related to anti national elements and terrorist outfits. The total number of violent attacks in 2020 was 398.
Who has committed most terrorist activities in 2020? The main agents of violence have been the left-wing extremists, jihadi terrorists, northeast insurgents and some other ancillary groups.
Of the 398 violent attacks in 2020, 240 of them were committed by the left-wing extremists and the jihadi terrorists were responsible for 76. North east insurgents committed 45 such attacks while 37 we committed by “others”.
The resulting violence has led to the deaths of over 80 civilians and 73 security personnel. The death toll for the left-wing extremists, jihadi terrorists and northeast insurgents in 2020 was reported by the NCRB to be 55, 82 and 37 respectively.
The death toll on both sides, thus witness through the year marks an increase form the previous year 2019. This should be a matter of concern for the Home Ministry and calls for adequate safety measures to be undertaken to cauterize the open wound of insurgency and terrorism.
