Nitin Gadkari: The Delhi-Mumbai expressway in India will generate ₹1,000-₹1,500 crore revenue per month

Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Safety stated that when the Delhi-Mumbai expressway will become operational the Centre will be benefit from the Delhi-Mumbai expressway revenue worth ₹ 1,000-₹1,500 every month. He also described the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the autonomous agency of the government that manages national highways in India, as a “Goldmine” for providing opportunity and generating income.

Gadkari Nitin also said that the NHAI which is involved in spearheading the road infrastructure drive in the country will rake in ₹ 1.40 lakh crore in the coming five years from the current amount which is ₹ 40,000 crore.

While talking at an event, Gadkari said that after the completion of the 1,380 km long Delhi-Mumbai expressway, it will not only be the longest highway in India but also the longest in the world. He also added that the Delhi-Mumbai expressway time to travel between the two metro cities will reduce from 24-26 hours currently to 12-13 hours once built completely. The eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai expressway completion date can be expected around March 2023. It will be the first phase of the ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana.

During the test, in a controlled atmosphere, as the road was still shut for the general public, the car accelerated and managed to get the MPV up to almost 170 km per hour. But looking at all the prospects the Delhi-Mumbai expressway seep limit is decided to be 120 km per hour.

Gadkari Nitin reviewed the progress of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway on Sunday and he denied that NHAI was a “debt trap”. He also said that the agency has received the highest rating and all road projects are productive. His words were, “NHAI is not a debt trap and will never be in the future. It is a gold mine and is on strong footing in the next five years, NHAI’s toll income will increase to ₹ 1.40 lakh crore.”
