MLA Bharat Chandra Narah, who is the chairman of the disciplinary action committee, said, “In the show-cause notice, the recipients have been asked to justify their anti-party actions, highlighting the cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against them by the committee, within a period of 15 days. Copies of the allegations will be attached with the show-cause notices.”

The highest, 51 show-cause notices have been served on congress workers in Lakhimpur. Apart from that, Dhubri, where the minority community is determining factor and other districts where the anti-party activities allegedly cropped up are Karimganj, Tinsukia, and Kamrup.

On Thursday, in a news conference, Narah said that criticism of the candidates was directly done to ensure their defeat. “These Congress members will be summoned if needed,” Narah said.

“The Assam PCC will decide on the quantum of punishment but the disciplinary action committee will give its recommendations. If the allegations are proved, Assam PCC will write to the Congress high command.” Narah said, adding that the new Assam PCC president, Bhupen Borah is firm on taking action against the indiscipline workers.
