Assamese language in the schools of Barak Valley: AIDSO reacts to the support of Paramananda Rajbongshi
The support of Paramananda Rajbongshi to the inclusion of the Assamese language in the schools of Barak valley during his visit to Barak valley lead to severe reactions. He suggested that the primary schools of Barak valley, hills, and Bodoland should include 50% Assamese language in the chapters. AIDSO Cachar and Karimganj committee highly condemned this proposal.
In a press meet, the AIDSO stated that as the English language is compulsory to have knowledge in various fields, so also to understand the subject matter, mother tongue is also necessary. Also to bring the people to the light of knowledge, mother tongue is a requisite. The committee also stated that Assam is a land rich in heritage and culture. So, the students of this state should not be forced to study the Assamese language.
They also stated that in the past, 11 people gave up their lives to save their mother tongue. The committee stated that such comments by Paramanada Rajbongshi will create differentiation among the people belonging to different communities. The committee asks all the people of Assam to come together and join hands for the cause.
