On Sunday, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wins the Bhowanipore polls by defeating BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal by a record margin of 53,389 votes.
After the victory, CM Mamata Banerjee has said that the people of Bhabanipur have given a befitting reply to the conspiracy that was hatched in Nandigram.
“Around 46% of people here (in Bhabanipur) are non-Bengalis. They all have voted for me. People of West Bengal are watching Bhabanipur, which has inspired me,” Said CM Mamata.
CM Banerjee had to win this by-election to continue as the Chief Minister, as she did not win from the Nandigram Constituency in the March- April assembly general elections.
Besides, Bhabanipur, the two assembly seats in Murshidabad district- Samserganj and Jangipur also went to the polls on September 30.
The counting for the Bhabanipur constituency was held in 21 rounds at the Sakhawat Memorial School of Kolkata. For Samserganj and Jangipur constituency, counting took place in 26 and 24 rounds respectively.
According to the details of Mamata Banerjee continued to lead after round 17 of counting.
After a round of 15 of counting of votes, Mamata is leading by 40,000 votes. While the TMC supremo has secured 58,503 votes. BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal has managed to bag 18,846 votes.
However, earlier, the West Bengal CM Banarjee has signaled her party’s aim to oust BJP from power in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, and Goa. while campaigning for the upcoming by-election in the Bhabanipur constituency in Kolkata, she said, “We will perform ‘khela’ in Assam, Tripura, Goa, and Uttar Pradesh if necessary. We shall do everything possible to oust the BJP from power in the country”. Banerjee is campaigning for herself to retain her post as Bengal CM as she had lost to BJP’s Suvendhu Adhikari in Nandigram seat during the Bengal elections.
