Security personnel in Jammu have recovered a consignment of arms near the international border of the Jammu district on Sunday. It is suspected by the police that the drop was made by a Pakistani drone. According to the report, the consignment included an AK assault rifle, three magazines, 30 rounds, and a telescope.
An official while talking to the media mentioned that the villagers have heard the sound of dropping items past midnight at Alora Mandal in Sohanjana, and informed the police. After which, without losing any time the police marched to the village and launched a search operation and found a yellow packet tied to strings and a wooden base to carry the payload, which leads them to the recovery of the arms and ammunition.
Jammu district police chief, Chandan Kohli, while sharing details regarding the recovered consignment said, “The incident happened around midnight. We have recovered one AK-47 assault rifle, three AK magazines, 30 AK rounds, and a telescopic sight”. About the matter, a senior officer also said, “It was a clear case of a Pakistani drone dropping arms and ammunition for the overground workers or OGWs. Sohanjana is a vast area by the side of the fourth Tawi Bridge where large-scale encroachment took place in recent years under political patronage. The possibility of OGWs among the encroachers cannot be ruled out.”
According to the sources, a case had been registered and an investigation for the intended receivers of the package is going on.
Over the past few years, an alarming increase has been noticed in drone activities from Pakistan. Which is leading to new challenges to the security forces for India. Several payloads holding huge quantities of Explosive Devices, rifles, sticky bombs, and narcotics have been recovered. On 23rd August, a drone was spotted near the IB in the Arnia sector, which forced the BSF to shoot fire on it. On 24th July, also police shot down a Pakistani drone, which was carrying five kg- IED in Kanachak area of Akhnoor sector in Jammu district.
