Silchar Medical College and Hospital to get more oxygen provision and intensive care units. Before the COVID pandemic showed up, the hospital had around 18 ICU beds. Whereas now, there are 280 ICU beds ready for the general patients. SMCH is getting prepared with sufficient ICU beds for the third wave of coronavirus infection. Also, the number of beds inside the existing Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) has been increased, and new PICUs have also been set up.
The district administration conducted an investigation and found that the beds in the wards have been connected to oxygen plants through the pipeline. Now, patients who are only in need of oxygen will not require to shift to ICU, instead, oxygen can be supplied to them in their respective wards. Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Babul Bezbaruah informed that equipment has been shipped from overseas to prepare the Oxygen Generation Plant. Also, an inspection has been made regarding the progress of the work, by the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma himself.
Both the plants are reported to be ready. It is great news for the people of Barak Valley.
