Silchar News Latest | The first solar system water project in Silchar

The first solar system water project was inaugurated in Silchar. The project was inaugurated by MLA Dipayan Chakraborty on Sunday. Through this project, 160 families of Bhajantipur GP will get pure drinking water. The project was developed under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The MLA termed this mission as a landmark step.

A very old project area adjacent to Shankarbakti Pechadhar of Bhajantipur GP is known as Shibari Water Supply Scheme. But the project was thriving at one time. Later, when the government launched the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Department of Public Health and Technology brought the project under that mission and developed it in a new way. The department has made arrangements to extract and purify water through a solar system which is the first in the Silchar assembly constituency.

MLA Dipayan hopes that the people of the region will benefit from the newly constructed project at a cost of Rs. 36 lakhs. Inaugurating the Solar System Water Project at the push of a button, the MLA said there was a ‘Sajaldhara’ project during the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee but the project was not implemented properly as Assam was under Congress rule at that time. But this time Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared to provide drinking water to every household. As a result, he started the Jal Jeevan Project. Dipayan claimed that work on the project is in full swing in urban and rural areas across the country keeping in view the Prime Minister’s dream.

The MLA further said that the BJP government wants to build a bond with all sections of the society through various facilities for the people, not just water projects. Dipayan Chakraborty sought the cooperation of the locals in the maintenance of the new project in Bhajantipur. Bastakar Tapan Sharma, executive of the public health and technical department, who was present on the occasion, said that earlier water service was provided using diesel.  The project, which is currently being renewed under the government’s Jal Jeevan Mission, will now run on solar systems here.

This is the first time that such a system has been introduced here, Sharma said. Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy’s representative Pulak Das spoke on the occasion. He said numerous schemes were being hatched for failure in project maintenance. As a result, Pulak Das urged the locals to project by electing the post of users committee.

West Silchar District Council member Ramakrishna Sinha sang the government’s development circular on the occasion. He said the government had arranged the project for the benefit of the people but it was the responsibility of the people of the area to maintain it. Architect Ashok Chowdhury, GP president Narayan Mukherjee, Sanjay Roy, BJP activist Debashish Som, Shyamal Kanti Deb, and others were present in the meeting. The plaque of the project was inaugurated at the meeting.
