Silchar Railway station

The Silchar Railway Station was first inaugurated under Assam Bengal Railway in the year 1898. It was incorporated to serve tea plantations on Assam owned by the British. Assam Bengal Railway has III sections, where the Silchar railway station came under Section I. In 1896-1898, the section opened and later extended to Lumding in 1903. Later, the people of Barak Valley had to wait for almost two decades to have broad-gauge rail connectivity. Finally, in 2015, the first passenger train Service was flagged on the newly converted Lumding-Silchar rail route. Further, the train and two other training are now running between Silchar and Guwahati, via Haflong and Lumding, covering a distance of 380 km, in more or less about 12 hr. Previously, the people of the valley had to face lots of struggle in transporting from Barak Valley to other places, due to the landslide, etc. The broad-gauge rail connectivity brought a light of happiness to the people of Barak Valley.
