Supreme Court refuses to postpone the GATE 2023 exam. The exam will be conducted on February 5 as scheduled
On Thursday, the Supreme Court of India dismissed a plea to postpone the 2022 Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination. The plea cited the current COVID 19 pandemic as a reason for the proposed delay. The Supreme Court rejected this plea, noting that, interference at this late moment – mere 48 hours prior to the exam, could cause “chaos and uncertainty.”
The Bench observed, “Postponement of GATE exam 2022 barely 48 hours before the scheduled date is replete with a potential for chaos and uncertainty for students who have registered for the exam.”
The decision by the Bench led by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud could cause trouble for some students from states with complete lockdowns like the Jammu and Kashmir. Critics have also noted that this could also lead to super-spreader events.
