Recently, a video is running everywhere in the internet, where a Mexican-American woman is seen harassing a group of four Indian-American women by passing racist comments on them, in the state of Texas in the US. The video has triggered the sentiments of Indians that are staying in all around the world.
In the video the Mexican-American woman was seen calling them ‘ruiners of America’, asked them to leave America and go back to India and much more. One of the 4 women posted the video on Facebook captioning that they went out for just a dinner with friends which lead to an ugly event. In the video it is also seen that the Indian women called the police and they arrived.
The Mexican-American woman has been identified as Esmeralda Upton. She is of 58 years old and is a resident of Plano. On Thursday the police arrested her on $10,000 bond for openly abusing the group, as shown in the video. According to the police the accused was also being projected as a hate criminal.
The incident is shocking and unacceptable. The executive director of South Asian American Voter Engagement of Texas, Chanda Parbhoo spoke about the incident and said that as they were all reassured that all the community members were staying safe, but it shook him after he encountered the video where he could see verbal, physical, and racist abuse passed in the dark parking lot, to the Indian women.
