Finally, Akshay Kumar has announced his foray into Marathi cinema for the first time. The Mahesh Manjrekar directorial venture has just conducted its Muhurat Shot in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
Tuesday, November 1st marked the start of a new and exciting film venture for director Mahesh Manjrekar. Having directed films like Vasstav, Kurukshetra, and Antim: The Final Truth, he now ventures into one of his most iconic projects. The film titled Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat will be a historical epic shot in the Marathi language revolving around the aura of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Produced by Vaseem Qureshi under the banner of Qureshi Productions, the story will revolve around the story of seven warriors whose sole aim it was to bring Shivaji’s dream of Swarajya into reality. The Muhurat Shot was just shot this Tuesday in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
In fact, it was Raj Thackeray that ensured the casting of Akshay as Chhatrapati Shivaji in the upcoming movie. Riding on the success of Ram Setu in theatres, Akshay Kumar who was present during the event said, “It’s a dream come true role for me. I think to portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the big screen is a very huge responsibility.”
On the part played by Raj Thackeray in giving him this role, the actor said, “I was taken aback when Raj sir asked me to portray this role. I feel so good to be playing this part and it’s going to be a dream come true role for me. Also, I will be working for the first time with director Mahesh Manjrekar, and it is going to be an experience.”

Sharad Kelkar was pretty good as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in “Tanhaji” & portrayed well various traits such as regality, the magnetic charm of an inspirational leader, calm confidence, devotion etc. I’m afraid Akshay Kumar, though a much bigger star, cannot carry off this role.
