Security forces conducted an operation against the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia. Reportedly, a youth was injured between the forces and suspected militants during the firing.
The person who was injured is identified as Amit Mukhiya, who is a resident of Pengeree. According to the sources, the injured person has been admitted to the hospital. However, it is still unclear if the person is a civilian or has any connections with the militants.
The security forces and police share no official statement. The report says a clash occurred between suspected ULFA-I cadres and security forces in the Pengeree area of Tinsukia. To keep the situation under control, the administration has blocked the Pengeree-Digboi road for the time being.
According to the sources, the police and security forces suspected the activity of a suspected group of militants taking shelter in the area. The informers of the forces suspected that the militants belonged to the ULFA-I. The operation occurred in the early morning, during which the man was injured.
However, the injured civilian was not allowed to speak to the media. The police are clearing out some legal “formalities” regarding the incident.
