Manipur government bans school excursions with immediate effect till January 10, 2023

Many students have lost their lives, and over 25 others suffered dreadful injuries after a school bus overturned in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday. The death toll in the bus accident now hiked up to 11. 

On the bus were students of the Thambalnu Higher Secondary School in Imphal East district of Manipur heading for a study tour. The accident occurred at Old Cachar Road near the Longsai area in the Noney district of Manipur. The injured were rescued and rushed to the nearby hospitals. According to the sources, most people who died in the accident were female students and two female teachers.

The government of Manipur has put a ban on school excursions until 10th if January, of the coming year. The honorable Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, announced an ex-gratia from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims of this bus accident.

CM Singh expressed his deep condolence to the families of the deceased. He also went to the hospitals where the injured students were being treated. The kin of those seriously injured will get Rs 1 lakh each and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
