A 24-year-old married tutor allegedly kidnapped his 13-year-old girl student who was studying in the eighth standard. The police in Manipur are investigating the matter. However, the incident caused a disturbance and raised several protests in Manipur.
Social Development Youth Club president Md Imdad Ali spoke to the media and stated that the married man is identified as Thokchom Kenedy, who lived in Khangabok Lamdaibung in Thoubal district of Manipur. He allegedly kidnapped the girl student on 15th December 2022. After that, everything remained untraced.
An FIR was filed on 16th December 2022. However, there has not been any trace of the tutor and the Student.
Several committees, such as CSOs, Joint Action Committee, All Manipur Muslim Girl Students’ Union (AMMGSU), and Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS), showed disappointed in the investigation. They have set a deadline of 2nd January 2023 and also threatened that failing to do so might launch intense protests across the state. The Superintendent of Police of Thoubal district in Manipur mentioned that the police are giving their best to find the tutor and rescue the victim as early as possible. The SP further stated that there are high possibilities that they have left the territory of Manipur.
