Barak Valley Witnesses The First Cerebral Angiography Performed by Dr. Sukalyan Purkayastha and Dr. Sambuddha Dhar
History was made at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) today by Dr. Sukalyan Purkayastha (MBBS, MD, DNB, DM -Intervention Neuroradiology, CCST) and Dr. Sambuddha Dhar (MBBS, MS, MCh- Neurosurgeon & Interventionist, Assistant Professor Head of Neurosurgery in SMCH ).
Further, Dr. Sambuddha added- “It was my dream to operate with the most advanced technology, which turned into a reality today. I am overwhelmed that I can also teach the students about the technology and the process involved. The interaction with the students and further explaining to them about the technology was filled with unbounded joy.”
Their dedicated neurosurgery team successfully conducted a cerebral angiography for the first time in the region. This is a remarkable new development from the perspective of growth in the healthcare space of the region.
Cerebral angiography is a high-tech diagnosis and treatment methodology that uses a catheter, x-ray imaging guidance, and injection of contrast material to identify issues in the blood vessels in the brain. This method can be used to identify abnormalities like diseases or aneurysms in the brain. One of the highlights of this method is the use of the catheter, which makes the method versatile enough to be used as a diagnostic tool and a treatment delivery method.
For Barak Valley and its adjoining states, this accomplishment was achieved by Dr. Sambuddha Dhar, Dr. Sukalyan Purkayastha, and the team. For the region’s residents, the knowledge that advanced procedures such as these could be done right here at SMCH would bring a sense of pride and relief.
The pace of developments in the neurosurgery field in the region has been outstanding ever since the appointment of Dr. Sambuddha Dhar as the Head of the Department. It will advance the field in the region for years to come.
