CEC Rajiv Kumar says voters living in the areas along the disputed border with Assam can vote in the Meghalaya Assembly elections

On Friday, the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, declared that voters who are living in the surrounding areas of the disputed border with Assam could cast their votes in the next Assembly elections that will be held in Meghalaya.

Rajiv Kumar said that as everyone is alive, there is nothing to worry about. He also mentioned that the committee has thoroughly studied the situation. After this, the district officials from both sides had several meetings. Also, the CEC had some meetings with influential personalities and officials of the state. 

Reportedly, disputes between Assam and Meghalaya occurred in 12 locations covering the 884.9 km interstate border. Previously, both states have signed a memorandum of understanding to solve the dispute in six out of 12 areas. 

According to the CEC, 21,61,729 voters in Meghalaya can exercise their voting rights in 3,482 polling stations covering 55 ST reserved seats and five general constituencies.
