The prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern shocked everyone with her announcement that she would resign from her position soon. The declaration was made at the annual gathering of her party.
Jacinda Ardern mentioned that she “no longer had enough in the tank” to perform the job efficiently. She stated that it was time for her to step back for the betterment of the nation. Jacinda realized during the summer break that she lacked the energy to lead the country efficiently. Therefore, she decided to step back from her position.
She said that her leaving the position has a deeper reason. She believes that with such a great privilege comes great responsibilities as well. Jacinda mentioned that it also comes under her responsibility to understand who is the right person for any role, which includes her role as well. She said she no longer has enough energy to do justice to her role.
Jacinda Ardern shall no longer be the Prime Minister from the 7th of February.
She said, “I am human, politicians are human. We give all that we can for as long as we can. And then it’s time. And for me, it’s time.”
After being asked what she wants her people to remember. She replied that she wanted her people to remember as someone who always tried to be kind.
