On 9th February, Hollywood Star Leonardo DiCaprio applauded the Assam government for its efforts to save the endangered species of Indian rhinoceros in the state. Following that, Assam’s CM, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, responded to the gesture of the Hollywood Star and invited him to visit the state.
Besides, in the tweet shared by CM Sarma, he mentioned that the state government believes in safeguarding wildlife as a part of their culture. He also wrote that the government is dedicated to preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage. CM Sarma thanked Leonardo DiCaprio in the same tweet and invited him to visit the Kaziranga National Park.
Leonardo DiCaprio took the Instagram on 9th February 2023 to praise the government of Assam for reportedly stopping rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park. In his post, he wrote, “In 2021, the government of the Indian state of Assam set out to end the poaching of the Endangered Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros in Kaziranga National Park following the killing of around 190 animals for their horns between 2000 and 2021. In 2022, they met their goal, and no rhinos were poached in the area for the first time since 1977.”
Previously, Assam’s CM mentioned zero poaching of endangered Indian rhinoceros in the state. He declared 2022 as a landmark year when no rhino died due to poaching.
