Google Pay only works on Android 5.0 devices or higher and not on rooted or custom ROMs

With Google Pay, you can pay with virtually any modern Android device, regardless of the manufacturer or form factor.

However, the security requirements must be met by Android devices to work correctly. Currently, Google Pay is only available on Android 5.0 devices or higher. But few users complain that Gpay does not work even after having Android 5 versions. Google’s Android operating system appears to be the cause of the problem.

If you receive an error message saying, “your device is not compatible with this android version,” be sure to clear your Google Play Store cache and data first.Try installing the app again after restarting Google Play Store

Additionally, the GPay app only works on secure devices and not on those running custom ROMs or rooted devices. Security concerns prevent Google Pay from functioning on rooted or otherwise modified devices. Custom firmware versions built by each manufacturer were slow and bloated, lacking the polish or performance of iOS. As Android progressed through its early years, custom ROMs began to emerge due to their fairly messy nature.
