The Model Code of Conduct during Nagaland’s election process, the police executed a state-wide drive. In which they seized Rs 5 lakh cash from a government vehicle. Reportedly, a senior officer in a flying squad in Kohima was using the vehicle.
The police carried out an operation, in partnership with SST, FST, and CAPF officers, to trace down vehicles with duplicate government number plates or “On Election Duty” stickers which were causing disruption in the election process. This led to the seizure of 975 kgs of areca nuts, Rs. 1.5 lakhs, and different types of Liquor.
Several senior officers of the Nagaland Police actively participated in the operation. In the inspection along with the civilian’s vehicles, government vehicles of senior officers of the state and central government were also searched.
The cash was further handed over to Kohima’s Election Expenditure Monitoring Committee. Besides, the person from whom it was seized has been detained. However, the accused is eligible to file an appeal within seven days if he can provide a valid reason for the action. The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C, mentioned that the money would be kept in the treasury.
