On 23rd February, the Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh responded to a calling attention motion that was raised during the third session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly by the opposition MLA K Ranjit Singh. Singh stated that the state government is keeping a close eye on security measures around the clock to ensure the safety of the Mao people. The government has also introduced a Mao to Dimapur MST bus service through Peren to eliminate any disturbance of Mao people while traveling.
During a recent Assembly floor discussion, K Ranjit Singh brought up a motion and requested information from the Chief Minister about the reported ban on Mao villagers entering Nagaland by the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO). In response, N Biren Singh acknowledged that Mao residents have been facing difficulties for a long time because the only way to reach Dimapur is by passing through the jurisdiction of SAPO. He also mentioned that SAPO had previously detained trekkers who entered Dzuko valley without informing the organization. The Chief Minister explained that Manipur and Nagaland are neighboring states and the Manipur government wants to avoid creating any issues between them. To address the problem, the government has introduced the Mao to Dimapur MST bus service via Peren, which allows Mao people to bypass the jurisdiction of SAPO and reach their destination without any further inconvenience.
