Police in Nagaon, Assam seize heroin valued at Rs 20 crore in Kaliabor; one individual arrested

In a significant victory against drug trafficking, the Nagaon police have seized 18 kg of heroin in a late-night raid on March 5 at Jakhalabandha in Kaliabor. The contraband was reportedly transported from Nagaland in a Honda City car, which was intercepted by a team comprising Additional Superintendent of Police of Nagaon Police’s Crime Branch Rupjyoti Kalita, Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rupam Bordoloi, and In-charge of Jakhalabandha, Pawan Kalita.

The driver of the Honda City vehicle has been arrested, but his identity has not been revealed yet. The value of the seized drugs, which were meant to be supplied in a registered vehicle in West Bengal, is estimated to be over Rs 20 crore in the smuggled market. In a separate incident, the Bongaigaon Railway Police seized a consignment of drugs worth approximately Rs 1.72 crore on March 4 from the Brahmaputra Mail, which was bound for Delhi. Acting on intelligence inputs provided by Gajraj Intelligence, the police team raided the train and recovered a bag containing 170 gms of suspected heroin and 8000 Yaba tablets from the general compartment. The GRP Bongaigaon has filed an FIR in relevant sections of the IPC.
