Assam has added another feather to its cap as it has once again entered the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame. This time, the recognition is for the world’s largest online photo album that, consists of 42.9 lakh handwritten notes on LachitBarphukan, a legendary general of the Ahom Kingdom.
The album, created by the people of Assam, was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records on Wednesday, 9th March 2023. The album is a tribute to LachitBarphukan, a hero for his valiant efforts in protecting the kingdom from the Mughal invaders during the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.
The people of Assam created the album as a part of the Lachit Divas celebrations, which are observed on 24th November every year. The Assam government launched the initiative to encourage the youth to learn more about the state’s history and culture.
The photo album, created on the occasion of Lachit Divas in 2022, was uploaded on a website where people worldwide could submit handwritten notes in praise of the great general. The response was overwhelming, and within a short time, the album received 42.9 lakh notes, making it the largest online photo album in the world.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his joy and congratulated the people of Assam for their effort. He said, “I salute the youngsters of Assam for having shown their affection for the legendary General LachitBarphukan. This recognition is a testament to Assam’s rich history and culture and will go a long way in promoting the state’s heritage to the rest of the world.”
