An Assam native, Nayanjyoti Saikia, has brought pride to his state by emerging as the winner of the popular cooking reality show MasterChef India. The 26-year-old self-taught cook hails from Tinsukia, Assam. Although the show’s finale is yet to be aired, a fan page has leaked a photo of Nayanjyoti, dressed in the iconic ‘MasterChef coat,’ holding the winner’s trophy and surrounded by crew members after the finale shoot.
Fans of the show have showered Nayanjyoti with congratulations on social media, acknowledging his well-deserved victory. However, the show has received some flak lately, with certain viewers accusing the judges of exhibiting bias towards some contestants. For instance, during a challenge, a vegetarian contestant, Aruna Vijay, was allowed to cook with paneer while others had to cook with mutton, leading to allegations of favouritism.
Nayanjyoti’s journey on the show was a rollercoaster ride, with his performances fluctuating throughout the competition. He caught the attention of Chef Vikas Khanna through Instagram, and despite his father’s initial reluctance to let him pursue cooking, Nayanjyoti persisted and ultimately won the competition.
