The Mizoram police have warned the public to be on the lookout for scammers impersonating Army officers. The fraudsters have been actively engaging in cybercrime, using various tactics to cheat their victims.
John Neihlaia, the Inspector General of the Mizoram Police, has stated that con artists utilize phony identification and canteen cards to trick their victims. They’ll tell you they’ll sell your car, bike, or household goods online in exchange for an upfront payment, but once they get it, they disappear without a trace.
Scammers’ playbook also includes luring victims into ordering meals for their “units” and providing them with a QR code to scan. Victims scan the QR code without realizing it may lead to a fraudulent bank withdrawal.
The Mizoram police have urged the public to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with unknown individuals, especially those who claim to be Army officers. They have also advised people not to make any payment until they have verified the identity of the person they are dealing with.
The Mizoram police have requested the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. They have also assured the public that they are taking necessary measures to track down the scammers and bring them to justice.
