In a controversial move, BJP legislator Rupjyoti Kurmi has called for removing Mughal history from certain courses and demolishing the iconic structures Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar. Kurmi believes that the Mughals were invaders who Indian students should not study. Instead, he advocates for the study of other Indian kings.
Kurmi applauded the “centre” for removing Mughal history from books, hoping the change would have been made earlier. Moreover, Kurmi wants to build the world’s most beautiful temple in place of the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar, claiming that these iconic structures are reminders of Mughal invaders. The legislator aims to make the temple recognized by UNICEF and the Guinness World Record. He has even pledged to donate a year’s salary towards the temple’s construction. This move has sparked widespread controversy, with many questioning Kurmi’s decision to remove significant historical monuments and erase an essential part of India’s history.
