BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya compares poorly dressed girls to Shurpanakha

Bharatiya Janata Party’s general secretary, Kailash Vijayvargiya, recently made controversial remarks during a religious function celebrating Hanuman Janmotsav on April 6. A video of his speech went viral on social media, where he reportedly said that girls who “dress badly” resemble Shurpanakha, a character from the Sanskrit epic Ramayana. The BJP leader also expressed frustration towards the younger generation, claiming that he feels like slapping educated young people and children under the influence of drugs to sober them up.

Vijayvargiya further stated that women embody goddesses, but some ruin this image by dressing inappropriately. He urged women to dress well as God had given them a beautiful bodies. In the Ramayana, Shurpanakha is the sister of the demon king Ravana, who lost her nose after trying to woo Lord Ram and his brother Laxman.
