The drug trafficking investigation in Manipur has made significant progress with arresting five suspects concerning a narcotics seizure case. Three smugglers from Assam and two members of the Village Defense Force (VDF) were detained.
The brown sugar weighed 3.69 kilograms and had an estimated value of Rs 4 crores on the global market, according to the police. It has been reported that VDF troops helped drug traffickers from Assam carry the contraband in exchange for Rs 1 lakh.
The brown sugar was found in 79 soap cases at Maram Centre, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Maram police station. LalpuSingsit, HaoginLhangum, and Robert Lenthan are the three people from Assam detained.
Manipur Police Spokesperson said in a media statement, “The police have been keeping a careful eye on the local narcotics trade. This confiscation has dealt the drug trade a serious blow.”
All narcotics, money, and confiscated cars have been turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
The police in Manipur have established special task squads and have been conducting frequent raids to reduce drug trafficking.
