Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana has become the talk of the town after his slinging action went viral in 2021. The 20-year-old has caught the attention of cricket fans worldwide, and even Indian legend MS Dhoni tried to bring him to the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board did not issue a NOC.
But now, Pathirana has joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and is making a name for himself as an excellent death bowler. His slower ball, honed by Dwayne Bravo, is proving difficult to pick for opposing batters. This skill and his slinging action have earned him the nickname “Baby Malinga.”
Pathirana’s father has claimed that his son’s action is not copied from Lasith Malinga and that he has been bowling like that since he started playing cricket. However, he has been training with Malinga and has developed his skills.
Pathirana comes from a family of musicians and is a talented pianist and singer.
