In a daring jailbreak, two life-sentenced prisoners named Hifzur Rahman and Deep Nunia escaped from Silchar Central Jail by tunnelling under the jail wall last night.
Hifzur Rahman hails from Bhanga, Karimganj, while Deep Nunia is from Ghungoor, Silchar. Both prisoners served life sentences for heinous crimes, and their escape has raised concerns about public safety.
As soon as news of the jailbreak reached Cachar DC Rohan Kumar Jha and SP NumalMahatta, they rushed to Silchar Central Jail to take stock of the situation. Upon arrival, they were briefed about the incident by jail authorities and immediately set into motion a plan to capture the escaped prisoners.
According to sources, the prisoners had dug a tunnel underneath the jail wall to escape undetected. The tunnel had taken several weeks to dig, and the prisoners had used crude tools to dig their way out.
Law enforcement officials have launched a massive search for the fugitives, with police checkpoints across the region.
