Assam Tea Sales Skyrocket to Rs 3,300 Crore at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre

During the fiscal year 2022-23, the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has had record-breaking sales of Assam tea of Rs 3,300 crore. Around 165 million kilogrammes of tea were auctioned at an amazing average price of Rs 191.26 per kilogramme at the GTAC, one of the region’s most renowned tea auction facilities.

Assam tea’s rising popularity and strong market presence were reflected in record sales at the GTAC, bringing in a whopping Rs 31,382,915,652.22 over the 2022–23 season.

The rising demand for Assam tea in recent years has been credited for this amazing performance by BidyanandaBarkakoty, an experienced specialist and Adviser at the North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) and Former Vice Chairman of the Tea Board India. When compared to the 2019-20 season, when 204.94 million kg of tea were sold at the GTAC for an average price of Rs 135.65 per kg, the continual rise in demand is clear.

The unique flavour and high quality of Assam tea have won the hearts of drinkers worldwide.
