Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah launched the second FlyBig Flight service between Guwahati and Silchar, with 63 passengers on board. The FlyBig airline will now operate flights between Guwahati-Dibrugarh and Guwahati-Silchar, boosting regional connectivity in the Northeastern region.
The flights will operate outside the Udan routes and aim to enhance domestic connectivity, thereby benefiting the tourism industry. The Assam Tourist Development Corporation (ATDCL) will provide support to FlyBig through VGF (Viability Gap Funding). FlyBig and ATDCL will mutually decide the daily operation of flights on both routes.
The inaugural Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati FlyBig service took place on May 1, 2023. The flights will adhere to a fixed schedule, departing from Guwahati at 7:30 am and returning from Silchar at 8:30 am every day.
This development marks a significant milestone for ATDC, and it is anticipated that this initiative will contribute to the region’s overall growth. The improved air connectivity will facilitate travel and contribute to developing tourism in Assam and the surrounding areas.
