India-Bangladesh Trade Relations Likely to Get a Boost with Commerce Minister’s Visit to Tripura

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Dr Atiqul Haque visited Tripura’s Muhuri Ghat Integrated Check Post in Belonia on Thursday to discuss trade and commerce opportunities between India and Bangladesh. The purpose of the visit was to address the difficulties the Belonia Integrated Check Post faced in importing and exporting various goods.

During the visit, Dr Haque was accompanied by administrative officials from both countries and personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB). Saju Vaheed A, District Magistrate for the district of South Tripura, was also present during the visit.

While Bangladesh’s commercial port infrastructure is sufficient, Belonia’sMuhuri Ghat ICP lacks the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the import and export of products. In response, the District Magistrate has urged that the Bangladeshi Minister of Commerce address the issue of Bangladesh impeding the building of the Belonia-Muhurighat ICP.

Dr. Haque informed the District Magistrate that he would initiate a solution to the problem. The visit to Muhuri Ghat ICP in Belonia and Srimantapur Land Port in Sonamura is crucial because it wants to investigate trade prospects and remove obstacles in India and Bangladesh’s import and export of products.

The visit of the Commerce Minister was favourably greeted by officials from both countries, who expressed their hope that it would lead to a more fruitful and mutually beneficial partnership between India and Bangladesh. The authorities also expressed confidence that the visit would resolve the problems confronting the Belonia Integrated Check Post, facilitating trade and business between the two nations.

This visit is part of a larger effort by the governments of India and Bangladesh to boost their commercial and economic relations. To increase bilateral commerce and investment, the two nations have recently taken several initiatives to strengthen connectivity and infrastructure.
